Workshops and networks to tackle issues of importance to government and business and social events to promote high level networking. WIG runs approximately 40 free events annually; key social events include the Annual Reception, Women’s Networking Lunch and the Annual Keynote Address by the Cabinet Secretary.

WIG’s insights scheme is a short-term experience based on seeing professional issues in another organisation. Schemes are tailored to suit individual needs, typically lasting for between two and five days.

Lawyers Network
A unique, cross-sector network for senior lawyers from WIG's member organisations. The network meets regularly for debate and the sharing of experience on policy, legislation and legal issues across the public and private sectors. Recent themes included ‘Corporate Manslaughter’ and ‘EU Regulation – Reducing the Burden’.

Masterclass
A forum for senior delegates to listen to, challenge, and debate strategic issues of the day with senior speakers from different sectors in an intentionally small and intimate gathering. A high-level chair takes delegates through a series of three sessions over a two month period, drawing together the threads of each session. Last year’s themes were ‘Sustainable Development’ with Defra, Rio Tinto and Forum for the Future; ‘Changing Cultures’ with Communities and Local Government, HM Revenue & Customs and Barnardo’s; ‘The British Brand’ with Laird Group, Foreign & Commonwealth Office and BBC World Service.
Mentoring
A scheme bringing together leaders from different sectors to provide new perspectives, practical insights and constructive challenge to support individuals in achieving key personal and business goals.

NEPEP
WIG’s north east people exchange programme: a programme of attachments, secondments and mentoring arrangements creating a hub of public sector and business managers in the NE region of England with experience of another sector.
Non-Executive Appointments (NED)
Appointments to department or agency management boards that provide government with different perspectives on corporate challenges and expose senior managers from other sectors to new perspectives and different business models, cultures and environments, where different approaches and techniques are required to succeed.

Organisational ‘Raids’
Groups of senior executives from one organisation obtain quick, first-hand experience of another organisation's approach to specific issues they have in common. The delegates spend a day with the host discussing the agreed theme. The 'raid' provides an opportunity for the host to present their approach and gain some fresh and objective feedback.
