WIG's year in numbers | WIG News

Over the past year, WIG has been committed to creating cross-sector learning opportunities for our members - including by fostering strategic dialogue, enhancing leadership capabilities, and encouraging sharing best practice.

We reflect on the impact we have had on our mission to drive collaboration through 2023.

Fostering strategic dialogue

Cross-sector conversations

5,493 people improved their knowledge, gaining cross-sector insights and perspectives through WIG’s hybrid event programme.

Impact at the most senior level

642 of the UK’s most influential leaders from across the sectors engaged in strategic discussion through our roundtables, addressing the UK’s biggest topics such as sustainability, social mobility, and productivity.

Amplifying cross-country voices

Nearly 30% of our speakers represented the regions and nations, and 74% of our events offered online participation opportunities, ensuring a better discussion of the UK’s cross-country priorities.

Enhancing leadership capabilities

Upskilling collaborative leadership capacities

Over 200 people upskilled their collaborative leadership capacities through our suite of leadership programmes, enriched with new skills and the mindset to embrace the challenges and opportunities of 21st-century leadership.

Developing the boundary-spanning skillset

WIG facilitated 70,087 hours of cross-sector secondments, supporting individuals to develop their knowledge and boundary-spanning capacity; an important skill for modern, collaborative leaders to leverage when working across sectors with different workplace cultures.

Learning from each other

WIG’s mentoring programmes support mentors and mentees to develop fresh perspectives and gain insight from another sector.  Last year, 286 people developed their skills and career through a WIG mentoring partnership.

Sharing of best practice

Collaboration

Researched and written by the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, WIG published the Collaboration Playbook, an evidence-based, practical guide to the fundamentals of collaboration. Nearly 400 individuals from 161 organisations enhanced their collaboration skills by downloading WIG’s Collaboration Playbook.

Diversity and inclusion

Last year, WIG delegates invested over 1,400 hours sharing best practice and driving progress across D&I initiatives, including through WIG’s annual Diversity and Inclusion Conference

Engaging with government

904 people learned about engaging effectively with government through WIG events providing deep dives into the structure and operation of the Civil Service and departments within it, including the Workings of Whitehall and Workings of a General Election series.

As we enter our 40th year, WIG continues to offer a full suite of opportunities for our members to collaborate across the sectors in service of achieving more together more than could be accomplished alone.
