The Government’s National Security Strategy published earlier this year, highlighted the changing nature and growing number of risks which can affect the country and its citizens. These include natural threats, such as pandemics and flooding, and man-made threats such as terrorism which have increasingly become global risks.

In response to the challenges raised in this strategy, WIG is runnning a practical workshop which will provide delegates with an overview of Business Continuity Planning (BCP), examine some of the challenges that still face planners, even once Best Practice has been applied, and how these challenges can in turn be addressed.

The workshop will be facilitated by business planning experts from VEGA and will include a case study from Northgate Information Solutions, whose head office was located 50 metres from the main blast when, in December 2005, the Buncefield Fuel Depot exploded, devastating the local area including many business premises. Northgate's case study will describe their contingency planning and preparation for this scenario, how they invoked their plan and what lessons they learned that could help other organisations.

The workshop will also cover legal compliance, corporate governance, health & safety and systems as well as offering delegates the chance to work through a scenario for themselves.

Who should attend?

This is an opportunity for senior management to hear about the changing nature of business continuity and how their organisation should approach this topic. Delegates will also hear about new issues which they may wish to address in their organisation.
