After a nearly 40-year career in the Royal Air Force, culminating as Chief of the Air Staff from 2016 to 2019, Sir Stephen was appointed Chair of the Civil Aviation Authority on 1 August 2020.  He was delighted to have this early opportunity to speak to the Whitehall and Industry Group.  He spoke about some of his experiences and the lessons he has learned working in the Ministry of Defence part of Whitehall, and how they are now shaping the approach he brings to his CAA role.  He also spoke to the extraordinary challenges currently facing the aerospace and aviation sectors, and outline his thoughts on the CAA’s role in addressing them.
