A year of transformation - 2021 | Article

If 2020 was the year of pivoting, 2021 is the year of transformation. As organisations we’ve risen to the challenges faced, building on what we learnt during 2020, whilst still navigating new and unknown territories with flexibility and agility.

Looking forward, we know there’s no shortage of challenges ahead – the solutions to which cannot be tackled in isolation. But, if the past two years have taught us anything, it’s that the more complex and fast-moving the issues, the greater the need to listen, understand and collaborate. And across every sector we’ve seen the continued enthusiasm to learn, analyse and share best practice to do so.

This year, through our on-going events and on-demand insights, we’re proud to have provided the platform for dialogue, intelligence gathering and collaboration. Whilst, our leadership development programmesnon-executive and trustee appointments, and mentoring partnerships are supporting organisations in the development of their future talent and current leaders – made even more prominent in the past 18 months.

So, as we say goodbye to 2021 and move swiftly into another year, we share some of our past highlights, what 2022 has in store for WIG and what you can expect from your membership next year.

“Through participating in WIG’s Mentor Match pilot programme this year (as both a mentor and mentee!) I’ve been able to connect and work with others in different industries, whilst also taking the time for my self-development. As well as supporting others, I’ve learnt that to better collaborate, I need to focus on building mentoring relationships outside of my current organisation and networks”. - Helen Rutherford, People Transformation Manager, Royal Mail Group

A message from our CEO

“At Jacobs one of our highlights this year has been working with WIG to host a secondee from the Department of International Trade. Andrea has been an enormous asset to the team over the last few months. She is always so helpful and dynamic. She has been at the forefront of delivery for scopes of work and proposals associated with decarbonisation and energy transition and has developed a strategy associated with our approach to electric vehicles. Her knowledge and expertise will make a huge difference to our sustainability commitments”. - Janine Barrow, Global Technology Leader - Sustainability and Climate Action APAC; IMPACT Decarbonisation Lead – APAC, Jacobs
