Collaborating on Brexit: WIG Annual Interview Generates Excellent Dialogue between Government and Business

WIG held its Annual Interview last night (Wednesday 19 October 2016) with Nick Robinson from BBC Radio 4’s Today programme interviewing Sir Jeremy Heywood, Cabinet Secretary and Carolyn Fairbairn, Director General of the Confederation of British Industry, representing the perspective of the civil service and business respectively. The invitation-only audience of 150 senior representatives from across business, government and the voluntary sector were treated to a wide-ranging discussion. The main interview topics were Brexit, industrial strategy and corporate governance, followed by an opportunity for audience members to put forward questions of their own.

The overall conclusion was that it has never been more important for business and government to work in co-operation in order to ensure a successful Brexit.

Sir Jeremy Heywood said: “The Government is wide open to hearing the views of business, that’s one of the reasons I personally come to events like this. We need to work closely together to make sure that we achieve the best possible outcome for the UK on leaving the EU.”

Carolyn Fairbairn said: “Business is good at solutions and we are keen to work with government on both Brexit and industrial strategy to help deliver a competitive economy for Britain in a post-Brexit world.”

The event was held in central London and kindly hosted by CGI.

The enthusiasm on the evening was captured by the speakers and participants on Twitter.
