Leaders today are navigating a new era of transformation and uncertainty. Global shocks have reshaped economies, technology is rewriting the rules and pace of work, and citizens are calling for visible progress, fast. Yet amid this complexity lies opportunity. Those responding most effectively understand that no single sector can meet these challenges alone. Real progress depends on genuine collaboration across sectors, combining the perspectives, expertise, and resources of government, business, education, and civil society to deliver results that last.
In the UK, the government’s Industrial Strategy and other long-term policy commitments signal a renewed focus on partnership-driven economic growth. But strategy on paper alone is not enough. The real test lies in delivery, in how well leaders can break through traditional boundaries to become trusted partners in driving innovation, productivity and inclusive growth to improve living standards across the country. Sustained collaboration for the long-term is also vital if the UK is to boost its competitiveness on the global stage and keep pace with other leading economies that are already working in this way to attract crucial investment.
That is why we are pleased to partner with Global Government Forum (GGF) on this timely and important study. Building on the ambitions set out in the WIG's 2024 Roadmap, we are now putting those commitments into action: learning from international examples to strengthen cross-sector collaboration here in the UK. Drawing on in-depth insights from Australia, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, and Singapore, the report explores how leading nations are putting cross-sector collaboration into practice. These are not theoretical frameworks; they’re proven approaches delivering measurable results: from Finland’s Room for Growth initiative to Singapore’s tripartite system and France’s €54 billion investment plan.
We believe that by learning from global experiences and adapting proven practices to the UK context, we can help accelerate the shift from ambition to impact and help the UK gain crucial competitive edge in attracting investment. This report charts the path forward, offering concrete examples and proven approaches for working across sectors to achieve sustainable economic growth and prosperity for the common good.
