More than a membership organisation: How can you maximise your WIG membership?

Angie Elrick, Head of Membership and Marketing, WIG.

When someone asks me who I work for, you’d think it’d be an easy answer. But for me, it’s a little tricky because the last thing I want to do is describe WIG as a ‘membership association’ when we’re so much more than that.

On paper, WIG is a membership organisation. But, saying that - and stopping there - doesn’t begin to capture what we actually do, or the difference it makes. We exist to help brilliant people do better work by seeing the world from different perspectives and, in doing so, help make that world a better place.

That might sound lofty, but I see it in action every day.

One CEO who joined our senior leadership programme five years ago still stays in touch with his cohort, a mix of CEOs, Vice Chancellors, Directors General, and now Permanent Secretaries. He likens them to the NCT group he joined before becoming a parent: a trusted circle for advice, sense-checking, and support through complex decisions.

Another CEO told us a single roundtable didn’t just spark ideas, it gave her confidence she was on the right track, knowing peers were tackling the same pressure to ‘become AI experts overnight.’

A Head of Sustainability from a major retailer shared how insights from one of our roundtables helped their organisation become an early leader on net-zero.

These stories aren’t one-offs. They’re the everyday impact of WIG.

Where else brings together some of the UK’s most senior leaders, from Permanent Secretaries and FTSE leaders to Vice Chancellors and NfP CEOs, and opens the door for their insights and expertise to be shared so widely?

And where else can you find something for everyone in your organisation? From over 120 policy dialogue events a year to CEO–Permanent Secretary roundtables, professional networks, cross-sector secondments, mentoring, and leadership programmes, WIG is one of the few places where apprentices and C-suite leaders learn and grow in the same trusted space.

For me, the real magic is when someone goes from “I didn’t realise WIG did that” to championing WIG for their whole team. That’s when the value lands, for the individual and their organisation.

Many people still don’t know that WIG membership is corporate, meaning every colleague can get involved.

That’s why we’ve created a brand new ‘Maximising Your WIG Membership’ guide - packed with practical tips, ideas, and real examples to help you and your colleagues make the most of it.

Because WIG is your one-stop shop: where policy insight meets professional development, and peer networks fuel collaboration for the common good. It’s a special place, and it’s all right at your fingertips.

I can’t wait to see more of you get involved and discover what makes WIG so much more than just another membership organisation.
