Communications Directors Roundtable with Simon Redfern, Director of Communications, Ofcom
This event is intended specifically for Communications Directors. Numbers are strictly limited to ensure everyone is able to contribute to the conversation.
Attendance is by invitation; the invitees are carefully selected in line with The Whitehall and Industry Group’s charitable purpose, representing organisations from a variety of sectors, to bring a range of views and perspectives.
If you or a colleague would like to be considered for future roundtables in this series, then please feel free to email us on [email protected]
In this roundtable discussion, Communications Directors from across the sectors will come together to discuss the challenges of communicating clearly in an ever-evolving media landscape consumed with misinformation and citizen journalism. Simon Redfern, Director of Communications for Ofcom, will open the session, before an open conversation involving all.
Director of CommunicationsOfcom
Simon is the Director of Communications for Ofcom. His first job was in a department store in Bournemouth selling microwaves which taught him a lot about how to talk about complicated things in a simple way. The help of a great mentor and a passion for politics helped him get a leg up into a consultancy called Connect Communications where he was able to develop his political campaigning skills before jumping into a bigger corporate communications role. This led him to the world of coffee and Starbucks where he drank way too many Frappuccino’s while heading up the comms team for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Then he uploaded his brain into the tech world at Google, where he helped build campaigns to explain the company's values and products to key opinion formers. Now at Ofcom, Simon leads the communication function as the organisation takes on its new role regulating the online world.
