Governance Network Roundtable: Organisational Culture and the Return to the Workplace

In this discussion, Non-Executives and Trustees from across the sectors will address contemporary thinking on the Board’s role in relation to organisational culture and the return to the workplace. The session will offer perspectives from across government, industry, academia and the not-for-profit sector.

  • Ann Cormack MBE

    Non-Executive Director

    Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

    Ann Cormack was appointed as a Non-Executive Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in October 2020. Previously Director International at Rolls-Royce plc, Ann joined the De Beers Group in October 2017 where she leads the Global Human Resources function. Ann spent the first 20 years of her career in front-line business executive roles at Shell International, latterly running Shell’s global internal consultancy B2B team and the European Fleet Fuel Cards business. She spent 2 years as Managing Director, Small Business Service, at the UK Department for Trade and Industry. She then served as Chief Executive of D1-BP Fuel Crops, a biofuels joint venture, and then Managing Director for Energy at Xyntéo. Ann is a Council Member of Chatham House, the Royal Institute for International Affairs. She previously served in a Non-Executive capacity on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Audit and Risk Assurance Committee from 2011 to 2019. Ann was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list 2020. She holds an MA in modern languages from Edinburgh University and a post-graduate Diploma in Russian from Strathclyde University. Non-Executive Director Board members give corporate leadership to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) by ensuring that the department meets the international policy priorities, Public Service Agreements targets and service delivery targets set by ministers. The role of a Non-Executive Director is to provide an effective and objective challenge to the rest of the Board and officials.
