  • About the speaker

Giles Wilkes graduated from Oxford in 1994 after having studied philosophy and economics. He spent ten years in business – financial derivatives and spread-betting – before moving into public policy, spending two years as Chief Economist to the think-tank CentreForum, and then working for four years as special adviser to the Coalition government in the Business Department. After two and a half years writing for the Financial Times (leader articles and the Lex column), he has returned to government as adviser to the PM on consumer markets, energy and industrial policy.
