About the speaker
Giles Wilkes graduated from Oxford in 1994 after having studied philosophy and economics. He spent ten years in business – financial derivatives and spread-betting – before moving into public policy, spending two years as Chief Economist to the think-tank CentreForum, and then working for four years as special adviser to the Coalition government in the Business Department. After two and a half years writing for the Financial Times (leader articles and the Lex column), he has returned to government as adviser to the PM on consumer markets, energy and industrial policy. Along the way he has picked up Masters in business and in economic history.
