John Whiting, Tax Director, Office of Tax Simplification
John Whiting, Tax Director of the UK’s Office of Tax Simplification (OTS), will talk about the work and achievements of the OTS in its first six years, its plans now it is on a statutory basis and some of the lessons learned on avoiding tax complexity.
John will outline the OTS’s recent reports, including closer alignment of income tax and national insurance, and invite contributions to and comments on its current projects, including simplifying corporation tax.
About the speaker
John Whiting has been the Tax Director of the UK’s Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) since the OTS was established in 2010; he is also a non-executive director of HM Revenue & Customs and a Board Member of Revenue Scotland.
In addition to his OTS position, he was until 2013 the first Tax Policy Director of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, a role he took on after a long career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was a tax partner for 25 years. He has also served on the first-tier Tax Tribunal. John was awarded the OBE in 2008 for services to the tax profession and the CBE in 2016 for his OTS work.
