About the speaker
Mallika Ishwaran is a senior economist within Group Strategy in Shell International. She has over 15 years of experience working as an economist and policy-maker, in the public sector, private sector, and academia. She advises on climate change and energy market developments to inform Shell’s long-term scenario outlooks, on topical economic and policy issues of interest to the Executive Committee and Board, on strategic engagements with national governments (including leading the strategic engagement with China), and on internal policy and advocacy positions.
She regularly represents Shell at external events and forums. Prior to joining Shell in June 2013, she was Deputy Director in the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. She was a member of the UK Government Economic Service between 2005 and 2013, and has worked in the Cabinet Office, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Custom. She has published a number of UK government position papers on climate change policy, energy markets, and economic growth and the environment. Prior to joining the UK civil service, Dr. Ishwaran worked for several years as an economist and policy-maker in the US. She received her Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, after receiving her B.A. from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University.
