In this Roundtable discussion, leaders from across the sectors will come together to discuss the major challenges to implementing widescale electric vehicle infrastructure. Emma Ward, Director General, Roads, Places and Environment Group, Department for Transport, will open the session, before an open conversation involving all.

    Emma Ward joined the Department for Transport as Director General for Roads, Places and Environment Group on Tuesday 17 March 2020. Emma has extensive experience working with businesses, local leaders and stakeholders, as well as on place-based approaches to growth and devolution. She was previously DG responsible for Domestic Planning and Implementation at the Department for Exiting the European Union and was also the first Director of the joint Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Cities and Local Growth team. As Director General for Roads, Places and Environment Group, Emma is responsible for:

    • Ensuring the department’s resources and plans align with our business plan
    • Development of policy in relation to roads, traffic, road safety, sustainable travel, bus travel and logistics
    • Managing the department’s relationship with local government and its contribution to the localism agenda
    • Managing the government funding of, and relationship with, Transport for London
    • Sponsorship of DfT’s motoring agencies
    • Managing and minimising transports impact on the environment
