    Steve was appointed CEO of Marks & Spencer on 2nd April 2016. He brings over 30 years retail and consumer brand experience to the M&S leadership team, having first joined the business in 1983 working at Croydon store and then re-joining in 1989 following a time at Top Shop working in store management. His career spans every aspect of M&S, having progressed through store management and buying and merchandising roles to be appointed Director of Home and New Business in 2004 and Director of Retail and a member of the Executive Committee in March 2008, with his accountabilities expanded to include M&S.com in 2009. He was appointed to the Board in October 2012 as Executive Director of Food before becoming Executive Director of General Merchandise in July 2015. Having led M&S’ acquisition of 50% of Ocado Retail Limited, the UK’s fastest growing grocery channel, Steve is a director of the Ocado Retail Board.   Steve is Chair of the Business in The Community (BITC) Place Leadership Team, which aims to unlock the potential of business to strengthen communities around the UK. In addition, he sits on the Board of the Consumer Goods Forum, which brings together leaders from global retailers and manufacturers to address sector wide challenges.
