The UK’s exit from the EU has been lauded as a unique opportunity to reform and innovate how we regulate. To deliver on this potential, one of the key items of the May 2022 Queen’s speech was the ‘Brexit Freedoms Bill’ which will grant new powers for ministers to overhaul laws retained post transition. This is therefore a crucial juncture to explore the role that regulation can play in an independent UK. WIG is delighted to once again work with our colleagues at the UK Regulators Network, to convene this expert cross-sector panel exploring the nature of post-Brexit regulation, and how it can support other key priorities highlighted across the Queens’ speech such as the levelling-up agenda, economic recovery, and international trade.

Andrew is a regulatory and competition economist and has worked from the C-Suite in major corporates. Over the last 14 years, he has led regulatory representation for five companies in financial services, aviation and utilities, leading 14 multi-year regulatory reviews.
Andrew has been a Board Member in financial services, and is also an adviser to regulated companies and to the Office for Rail and Road. He has been a member of the RPC since June 2018.
Christopher Hodges OBE is Emeritus Professor of Justice Systems at the University of Oxford and a Supernumerary Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. He has extensive experience of regulatory systems, initially as a City of London lawyer and for the past 20 years as a leading academic researching many different sectors and advising numerous governments, regulators and businesses on regulatory issues. He is also the co-founder of the International Network for

Suzanne has wide experience of competition law, EU law and regulatory matters combining cartel regulation, commercial practices, IP exploitation, merger control, public procurement and State aid/subsidy control.
Suzanne’s practice has a particular focus on the interface between competition law and economic regulation. She advises governments, regulators and businesses across the regulated sectors including in the communications, energy, financial services, healthcare/ pharmaceuticals, TMT and water sectors.
Suzanne has significant experience of advising on the development, implementation and application of new competition laws and regulatory regimes in line with international best practices, including in emerging markets. She is a member of the UK Regulators Network (UKRN) Expert Advisory Panel and a non-executive director of the Legal Aid Agency and the Press Recognition Panel.
With 25 years of legal and regulatory experience, she has held positions at magic circle and leading international antitrust practices prior to her transfer to the Bar. She has also held the role of director at PricewaterhouseCoopers working within its strategy, economics and forensics teams.
