With ongoing conflicts in both Ukraine and Israel/Gaza, along with potential flashpoints identified in the Taiwan Straits and other regions, geopolitics is more than ever, having a direct impact on economic growth across the UK. Supply chain resilience is a major focus for both the private sector and Government alike to protect the UK’s economic security. In this invitation only session for Chief Execs we will discuss:

  • Potential medium- and long-term risks associated with economic security and what companies are doing to prepare
  • Discuss approaches to supply chain resilience, taking lessons from the pandemic, along with efforts at near-shoring and other approaches utilising data and new technology
  • Assess how the UK government and private sector can collaborate more effectively to plan for future geopolitical challenges, and ensure risks are mitigated in critical supply chains

Alex became Permanent Secretary at the Cabinet Office and Chief Operating Officer for the Civil Service in April 2020. He was previously Permanent Secretary for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and prior to that he was Joint Permanent Secretary for BEIS.
