As the UK looks to scale up clean energy capacity and meet its net zero ambitions, there is a growing focus on how to translate policy into delivery at pace. This raises important questions around how barriers to deployment can be addressed, how projects can move more quickly from planning to implementation, and how different sectors can work together more effectively.

This roundtable will bring together senior policymakers and officials from across government, alongside leaders from industry, finance, and the not-for-profit sector, to share insights and identify opportunities for collaboration. With a focus on practical delivery, the discussion will explore how progress can be accelerated, what has been achieved so far, and where further action is needed to unlock investment and drive impact.

Key points of discussion

  • Overcoming barriers to delivery and accelerating progress on clean energy projects
  • The role of cross-sector collaboration in unlocking investment and scaling deployment
  • Reflections on progress to date and priorities for driving forward the UK’s clean energy transition

Speaker

Chris Stark is the head of the new Mission Control for Clean Power tasked with moving the UK to clean power by 2030. Mission Control for Clean Power sits within the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Chris was the Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee, the UK’s statutory climate advisers. Chris led the Committee’s work to recommend a ‘Net Zero’ target for the UK, the world’s first legislated Net Zero target. He has since directed the development of detailed pathways for the UK to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2021, he presented the UK’s third climate change risk assessment, with detailed analysis and advice on the extensive risks facing the UK from climate change.

Chris has held a number of senior roles in central government, including in HM Treasury and as Director for Energy and Climate Change in the Scottish Government. He is a regular commentator in national and international media and featured in David Attenborough’s documentary, ‘Climate change – the facts’. Chris regularly speaks publicly on the urgent need to confront climate change and the economic benefits of rapid cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
