Breakfast Briefing with John Fingleton, Lead for Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce
This breakfast briefing will explore the future of the UK’s nuclear programme and the policy and regulatory conditions required to deliver at pace.
With renewed government focus on expanding nuclear capacity as part of the UK’s energy and growth strategy, there is increasing attention on how delivery can be accelerated while maintaining robust regulatory standards. This raises important questions around the role of regulation in enabling innovation, the coordination required across government and industry, and how barriers to deployment can be addressed.
Drawing on insights from the Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce, this session will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with scaling nuclear delivery, including how regulatory frameworks can adapt to new technologies, how partnerships across the public and private sectors can support delivery, and how to create the conditions for investment and long-term confidence.
Key points of discussion
- The role of policy and regulation in enabling timely and efficient delivery of nuclear projects
- Opportunities and challenges in scaling the UK’s nuclear programme, including new technologies such as SMRs
- The importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting investment, supply chains, and delivery capability
