Invigorate your leadership.

Coaching is an integral part of WIG’s leadership development ethos. Our experience is that it helps delegates to deepen and embed their learning, ensuring that they, and their organisations, gain sustainable benefits.

We offer one-to-one coaching to all of our members, giving you development tailored to your specific needs. We know our coaches well, and all of them are skilled and experienced senior-level professionals with high ethical standards.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a powerful partnership that provides structure, accountability, feedback and support.  The International Coach Federation (ICF), the leading international professional body for coaches, defines it as:

“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.  Coaching honours the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and whole”.

A coach will listen, observe and then customise his or her approach to your needs. They will seek to elicit solutions and strategies from you.  Your coach’s job is to help you access your own skills, resources and creativity in order to achieve your goals, improve your performance and impact and enhance your value to your organisation.

What will the coaching cover?

For me the coaching sessions provided the link between theory and practice.  They allowed me to explore in safety my response to real life situations and therefore be more confident when I had to take decisions and put them into practice.  An invaluable opportunity to talk through difficult situations and explore solutions – the perfect safety net. - Delyth Thomas, Welsh Assembly Government

Coaching can cover:

  • Leadership Coaching – to support your ongoing development as a leader
  • Performance Coaching – to help you address a particular issue e.g. preparing for an interview
  • Transition Coaching – to support you as you move to a new role or sector, as you move out of your organisation due to redundancy or retirement, or as you return to work after a career break
  • Executive Coaching – to offer support as you move into a senior job or take on a Non-Executive role
  • Career Coaching – to help identify and move towards career goals or explore a change of direction
  • Work/life Balance Coaching – to help you focus on what is important and support you as you make changes at work and in your personal life

Whilst the coaching will be led by you, our coaches’ toolkits include a wide range of practical tools and techniques which can be introduced as appropriate.

How does it work?

We can work with you to tailor a bespoke coaching programme to meet your needs and your organisation’s expectations, taking into account your: budget; desired outcomes; timeline; preferred frequency etc.  We can offer face-to-face or telephone coaching, or a mix of the two. Alternatively we can put together a coaching package that incorporates additional WIG elements e.g. a 5-day Insight to another sector, a Business Attachment, or one or more of our one-day development seminars.
