Net zero and sustainability

National Highways is responsible for the strategic road network (SRN), over 4,500 miles of England’s motorways and major A-roads connecting people, building communities, creating opportunities and helping the nation thrive. This pivotal infrastructure is responsible for inclusive economic growth across the country. As we near the end of the second road period, which runs from 2020-2025, understanding the focus of National Highways and how it is looking to work with the wider public and private sectors to maintain, renew and improve our major roads is critical.

In this briefing with Nick Harris, chief executive of National Highways, we will discuss:

• How specific funding, activities and projects will be delivered in the final phase of Road Investment Strategy (RIS2) and where they are looking to work with others to develop their forward looking strategy

• The role of National Highways to support economic growth and broader net zero agenda as it relates to carbon and the environment

• Where there is scope for further collaboration between partners, across government and other strategic infrastructure projects
