Economic growth and prosperity

Following the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, nations across the world, including the UK, have committed to ambitious net-zero targets in order to reduce global temperature increases. Simultaneously, there has been a drive to increase biodiversity, while preventing pollutants and waste from entering our natural environment. As the need for a significant change to our economic system becomes increasingly central to achieving these targets, the idea of a Circular Economy is gaining traction.

Based on the principle of eliminating waste and pollution by maintaining products, materials and resources, while also taking steps to regenerate natural systems and energy sources, WIG was delighted to invite you to hear how such a system could be achieved, with speakers including Tim Brooks, Vice President of Environmental Responsibility, LEGO Group; Paula Chin, Sustainable Materials Specialist, WWF-UK; Michael Topham, CEO, Biffa; and Dawn Woodward, Deputy Head, Resources & Waste Division, Defra.

By tuning in online you will:

  • Have the opportunity to hear from senior leaders across the sectors about the opportunities of a Circular Economy, both in terms of environmental protection and economic development
  • Understand the practicalities and significant challenges behind achieving a non-linear economy that elminates waste and pollution, and what this would mean for business as we know it
  • Hear how cross-sector collaboration will be key to unlocking the potential of circular economic model, and how industry, government and civil society can work together to achieve transformational change
