As part of Trustees’ Week 2025, WIG invites you to a webinar designed to help professionals take their first step into Trusteeship and understand how cross-sector experience can strengthen the boards they join.

You’ll gain a clear understanding of what trustees do, the responsibilities involved, and why trusteeship is both a meaningful way to give back and a powerful route for leadership growth.

The event will feature insights from the Charity Commission representative on effective governance and from a WIG alumni trustee sharing their personal journey to Trusteeship, reflecting on how perspectives from different sectors can add real value in the charity space.

Whether you are curious about becoming a trustee or ready to take the leap, this session will equip you with practical guidance, inspiration, and the confidence to contribute across sectors.

Speakers

Paul is Director of Communications & Policy and a member of the Charity Commission’s Executive Leadership Team. He is responsible for:

·         helping charities access the information and guidance they need

·         ensuring the Commission clearly explains its work and regulatory requirements

·         overseeing the Commission’s policy thinking and research

·         ensuring the Commission engages effectively with charities, the public and its diverse stakeholders

Paul joined the Commission in March 2020 in what turned out to be lockdown week. He was closely involved in the Commission's pandemic response, overseeing bespoke guidance to help charities meet their responsibilities under trying circumstances. He has led a new approach to using strategic communications as a tool to reach out to trustees, overseeing the Commission's 'Be certain in uncertain times' digital campaign to raise awareness of its new 5-minute trustee guides. He has been involved in communicating the Commission's complex and often high profile casework to a range of audiences. He also oversees the Commission's relationship with the sector's representative bodies, with Government and with Parliament.

Paul joined the Charity Commission from the Competition & Markets Authority, where he was Director of Communications & Strategy and a member of the senior leadership team. Prior to that, he was Director of Communications at the Office of Fair Trading, and also held senior communications roles at the CBI business group and the Strategic Rail Authority.

Since June 2024 he has been a trustee of Bowel Cancer UK, a cause close to his heart, and sits on its Governance & Nominations and Marketing & Engagement committees.

Rasheed is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at a National Housing Association and a Non-executive Director at Avante Care, supporting over 2,500+ residents. A dual-qualified lawyer with a Master's in International Financial Law, he has spent nearly a decade structuring social infrastructure transactions across the social housing and care sectors. Rasheed combines commercial expertise with deep sector knowledge, bringing practical board-level experience to questions of governance, risk management, and scaling social enterprises. He is also a legal tech founder bringing innovative solutions to regulated industries, bridging the gap between traditional sectors and digital transformation.
