In August 2021, after a long career in the private sector, David Bickerton took up the role as Director General, Business Sectors. The role cover a vast remit, including business investment, cities and local growth, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure and materials, life sciences, professional and business services and retail. Working with the private sector to ensure the success of the portfolio is critical. With this in mind we are delighted to bring you the special breakfast briefing with David himself.

In the session we will:

  • Get insight into how David would like to work with the private sector to ensure success across the business sectors
  • Find out the policy priorities for Department in relation to working with the business sectors
  • Learn about David’s observations having worked across the sectors, and where there is scope for further understanding and collaboration

Speaker

David Bickerton became Director General for Business Sectors at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in February 2023. He was Director General for Business Sectors at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) from 2 August 2021 to 7 February 2023.

Before joining BEIS, David was a Partner at Clifford Chance in the UK. He was the Managing Partner for London and the Middle East. He also led the law firm’s public sector practice and their work for the UK government.
