Following the publication of the ‘UK Government Resilience Framework’ in December 2022, WIG is delighted to be partnering with our colleagues at UKRN for this in-person workshop.

We will be bringing together leaders from regulators, the wider public sector, industry, academia and NFPs, to explore how organisations across the sectors can implement the recommendations around specific risks, and collaborate on a ‘whole of society approach’ to building a strong resilience system.

Mary’s career in the Civil Service began in the Ministry of Justice where she focussed on criminal justice and constitutional issues, followed by a stint in Ministerial offices ahead of the 2016 Brexit referendum.

This led to Mary joining the Cabinet Office in 2016 where she spent nearly four years managing Government decision making and contingency planning on home affairs, constitution, Brexit and Northern Ireland.

Mary joined the Office for Life Sciences (OLS) in September 2020 as Deputy Director for Strategy, Investment and Manufacturing. Her role focussed on creating opportunities for the UK’s life sciences industry to contribute to the country’s economic and health goals, including on future pandemic preparedness following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mary returned to the Cabinet Office to lead the Resilience Directorate in September 2022.  The Resilience Directorate works to enhance the UK’s resilience in its ability to prepare for, adapt to and recover from shocks and disruptions.

Vice-Chair, National Preparedness Commission; former Second Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence; former Chairman, Serious Organised Crime Agency.

Huw Saunders has been in the Telecommunications industry for over 35 years working for equipment vendors, telco/service providers, as a consultant and, currently, is Director Network Infrastructure at Ofcom. He has in depth and widespread experience of all aspects of telecoms services with an emphasis on policy, strategy, business development and service deployment. Due to the unique nature of the businesses he has worked for, this experience extends from consumers to the largest business customers, from both an incumbent and new entrant perspective, including services provided to and via other carriers and service providers. His current role focusses on network security and infrastructure development.
